Each camper has a place in our circle of friends!

  • Co-ed groups by grade and age
  • 10-16 children per group
  • Camper to staff ratio of 5:1
  • Swimming twice daily in pools
  • Special program areas with special leaders
  • Countless optional activities

Campers are arranged in coed groups of children of the same approximate age and developmental stage. While we use school grade in the fall as the primary indicator, we also take into account age, friendships, previous camp experience and other special circumstances when forming groups. Groups are divided into three major age-group Divisions (see below), and interact, for the most part, with campers of the same relative age.

There are two counselors in each group of 10-16 children -- a mature, responsible Group Leader (college age or beyond), and a capable Counselor (junior in high school or beyond). These counselors are their campers’ primary adult friends at camp and participate with them at every level. When groups visit program areas they encounter the Specialists and Counselors assigned to lead activities in those areas. The over-all camper to staff ratio is 5:1. Each Division of the camp is supervised by an adult Division Coordinator who actively participates throughout the program.

Camper groups stay together most of the time. Groups have a schedule that outlines visits to each of the appropriate specialty areas along with blocks of discretionary group time. The balance of scheduled program area visits and “group time” allows each group to work cooperatively in developing a program of activities for their own exploration and enjoyment. Counselors guide them in cooperative decision making, planning, communication and conflict resolution.

Swimming lessons, recreational free swim, lunch and our all-camp meetings are set in the daily schedule. Other activities are offered in a pre-set schedule representing a sampling of all of our program areas. Groups are charged with determining the activity desires of their members and have the power to plan their own course of events beyond the regular schedule.

What does a typical day look like?

9:00 – Morning meeting.
All assemble on the basketball court for morning announcements and the infamous “joke of the day.”
9:20 – 12:00 – Swim Lessons and Special Activity Areas
Each group participates in Red Cross Swim Lessons for ½ hour each day. (Day 1 and Day 10 are reserved for pre- and post-testing).
Each group will have at least one 45 minute visit to a special program Activity Area each morning. Over the course of a 2 week session, each group visits each specialty area at least twice (exceptions would be canoeing – each group goes to the Mansfield Reservoir once each session as it takes most of the morning or afternoon, and our Adventure Ropes Course, which is scheduled 4 times per session, as it requires much training and orientation before going up on the course):
Unscheduled morning time may be used to do any activity that the group is able to plan and execute safely. These activities may include, but are not limited to:
Basketball, softball, soccer, tennis, badminton, volleyball, playing on the playscape and train, newcomb, spud, red-rover, kick the can, hiking, river-stomping, arts and crafts, duck-duck- goose (or on hot days, duck-duck-splash), ultimate frisbee, etc.
12:00 – 12:30 – Lunchtime
12:30 – 1:00 - Camp Meeting
All campers and staff attend our daily camp meeting which is filled with fun! Dudley and our staff lead the campers in singing and cheering, groups perform skits, birthdays are celebrated, campers try to guess the age old question of the ages – “What Is It?” (a popular nature game), and try to answer the daily sports trivia questions. Camp meetings are always loads of fun for campers and staff all ages.
1:00 – 3:40 Free Swim and Activities
Each Division goes back to the pools for 45 minutes of free swim time. Each group visits another specialty area, as explained above.
Any unscheduled time is used as explained above.
Middle Division has “Happy Hour” from 1:00 - 2:00 each day. The entire Division meets to listen to a vast number of creative, daily offerings. Middle Division staff and any specialists who are available present choices, and the campers can elect to spend the hour at a certain activity, or with a certain staff member as they choose.
3:45-3:55 - Board Buses and Vans
